Digital euro (@ Wikipedia) - Studied the latest version (0.9) of official documentation. It still lacks lots of technical details, but general guidelines are quite clear. I personally would have wanted one more address category, there's now fixed DEAN + Aliases (like phone number) and the surrogates for Pay-By-Link (PBL) and QR Codes / NFC for privacy, but those are really short term. I would love having user configurable or even random aliases. Just like you can create and delete temporary credit cards and or IBAN (@ Wikipedia) accounts can be opened in web-interface, it would be so nice to be able to add specific payment addresses for necessary time. Ie. I'll create address for payments for a specific purpose, and delete the address after three months, when payments have been received. - This is exactly how I using chat groups and email aliases for decades. In that case the address itself would work as "RF" creditor reference (@ Wikipedia) information, what the money is for and or where it's from, for my own bookkeeping and processing. Well, at least there's the message field. Duh, just like tokenized authentication for any modern service. Carefully studied the Digital Euro and it's token based offline features. kw: digieuro, digi, addressing, privacy, Europe, payments, blinded tokens, blind signatures, anonymity, anonymous, offline
Traffic Analysis (@ Wikipedia) - Had a long chat with a few privacy friends about historic and modern cases, where traffic analysis revealed things even if solid encryption was in place and operating as desired. Fun discussion and after all, nothing new. It's just great reminder how encryption won't help at all in many cases.
Email - A friend is developing new email solution. I reviewed the current experimental status of it. As usual found many localization errors, missing DKIM (duh!) and BS terminology like "Military Grade Encryption" omfg, lol. Ok, asked them to check ENISA, NIS2 directives in detail, as well as of go through all localization stuff. As well as adding DKIM for their and client domains. - Let's see how this turns out. At least the intention is very good, execution at this stage is just lacking a bit. - But no hard feelings as this stage, it's clearly under fast development and very experimental. If they would claim it's "ready" tone would be completely different than when providing early access and asking for reviewing current implementation. - It's s nice to review something being constructed and be able to give hopefully useful feedback in the early stages.
BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) (@ Wikipedia) - Email authenticated business logo feature. I didn't know about it. And it seems to be feature which is likely to be supported only by major platforms, especially if VMC is required making the feature expensive to use, because of expensive validated paid certificate (certification).
SMR (@ Wikipedia) - drives again, when running some larger archival jobs, I found out that basically similar Toshiba Canvio drives are more than twice as fast as WD Elements drives. There must be some key difference how the shingles are managed, maybe Toshiba Canvio is able to detect that it's large full shingle stack overwrite, and avoids read-modify-write cycle, because there's nothing to read, when everything is getting replaced. The archive update job is writing terabytes of sequential data to the disk, so there's no need to modify the data, just maybe deal with metadata modifications.
DGNSS (@ Wikipedia) T-BAS for navigation accuracy with suitable receivers in Nordics seems to be available.
mikes.fi ntp public pool configuration for Chrony NTP client:
# mikes.fi public time servers pool
pool time.mikes.fi iburst maxsources 1 prefer minpoll 6 maxpoll 16
pool time1.mikes.fi iburst maxsources 1 prefer minpoll 6 maxpoll 16
pool time2.mikes.fi iburst maxsources 1 prefer minpoll 6 maxpoll 16
I just can't stop loving this terminology: Offset, Skew, Drift, Jitter, Wander, Dispersion, Residual, Stratum, Slew, Popcorn, Variance, Smearing, RMS, Deviation, Precision, Noise, Stability.
